Traditional sandlewood (Santalum album) from the southern
state Mysore, in India has been used for centuries for incense, as a
wood for carving, as well as for it's oil that was used as a natural
perfume. The plantations of this area can no longer support the the
worl's demand. A second, similar species, Santalum spicatum, native
to Australia, produces a very similar oil.The oil is distilled from
the heartwood of the tree and the oil only develops its prized odors
when the tree is at least 30 years old.
Both types of Sandalwood oil are used for treating sexually
transmitted diseases.(Orthodox treatments should not be discontinued
while using it.) Traditional aromatherapy uses include as an aphrodisiac
for men, relief from genito-urinary infections, and the antiinflammatory
action was found useful to fry, inflamed skin and for sore, dry throats.
Itchy skin - apply undiluted to areas of itchy skin. due
to the cost, you may prefer to dilute it (1 drop to 1 tespoon of vegetable
oil).
Genito-urinary infections and itching - add 3 drops to
a shallow warm bath. Soak the affected area for 10 minutes. Can also
dab undiluted sandalwood oil directly onto the affected areas.
